What the heck?

I believe the target of anything in life should be to do it so well that it becomes an art.

— Arsene Wenger

Hey all you thespians and creators at the Gaslight-Baker! (And anyone else that may have wandered in.). This is the first essay in a series of essays to help us become a stronger company in the specific areas of character, ethics, and customer service. Sounds tremendously exciting, no? Wait, wait!! Don’t leave!! We will do our best to keep it short and entertaining. So lets start with this: why does it matter?

Talent alone is not enough. Character and ethics…..must be acquired and developed.

-Uta Hagen. Respect for Acting

Uta Hagen rightfully taught that character and ethics were a necessary part of theater, especially as they lead us to a strong respect for each other and a solid understanding of our own identity.

Teaching anyone to apprehend good character is beyond the scope of this endeavor. However, we can lay a groundwork and create an atmosphere where “character” may flourish. That’s where FISH! comes in. We have determined at the GBT to use the FISH! philosophy as a starting place to create that atmosphere. What is FISH! Glad you ask. Take a look at this overview video, (it’s sales so keep your cheese guard up).

Obviously it will work a little differently for us, but you get the idea. We will be posting with regular stories and plans for how we can use FISH! at the GBT and other GBT life stories of interest.
